Find Someone Who – Printable Worksheets for Adult Classes

find someone who activity

Find someone who is a fun and engaging activity which is perfect for helping your adult ESL students practice their English skills while getting to know their classmates. It’s a great way to break the ice on the first day of class, build a sense of community, and improve conversational skills.

How to run a find someone who activity

To get started, give each student a copy of the question sheet and emphasise that they should not write on the worksheet until the activity has started. Then, follow these steps:

  1. Run through each row of the question sheet with your students, eliciting the questions they will need to ask to find someone whose name they can write in the name column.
  2. Brainstorm some examples of follow-up questions that students can ask to find out more information for the extra information column. You can leave a couple of blank rows at the bottom of the question sheet and ask the class to come up with their own ideas for the last two items.
  3. Encourage your students to get up and mingle with their classmates, trying to find one person whose details they can write in the appropriate row. Be sure to model the activity, as there’s plenty of room for misinterpretation.
  4. To encourage everyone to mingle and meet new people, you might consider setting a rule that each student can only speak to the same person twice. However, this depends on the size of your group.
  5. Feel free to join in the activity yourself! In fact, students are often a bit reluctant to get up and join in, so starting off yourself will encourage them to follow your lead.
  6. After about 15-20 minutes, have everyone sit down and go through each of the questions. Ask students who they have found and any extra information they have discovered. This is a great opportunity to encourage further conversation and help your students get to know each other even better.

This activity is a fantastic way to improve conversational skills, build community, and get your students interacting one-on-one with their classmates.

  1. Thank you for sharing “survey” activity. Let me share my teaching experience at State Polytechnic of Padang-INDONESIA. The speaking activity is to ask students to go out from the classroom for a survey in Polytechnic’s campus in 15 minutes with a notebook and pen. Each student is free to choose a place she/he wants to survey (administration office, workshop, laboratory, parking lot, cafe, or others). They take notes and then go back to the classroom. In 2 or 3 minutes, the student individually presents orally what he/she has noticed during the survey.

  2. Recently, we did this game at The ALC Oujda , it was very useful for us as students for interacting with each other and getting out our comfort zones.

  3. This is an amazing activity because the students enjoy and try to get as much as they can in oder to fill the form. Thanks a trillion to have shared this activity.
